ELDER MELVIN BROWN, SR., Th.D.

 

Elder Melvin brown is the youngest of 12 children born to the late Deacon Richard Brown, and the late Agganora Brown.

Elder Brown accepted the Lord at the age of 13, under the pastorate of Elder Ithiel Clemmons. He served as a Sunday school teacher in the Children’s Department and he was appointed Minister of Music of Gethsemane C.O.G.I.C. by Elder Clemmons.

On November 23, 1963, Elder Brown and the late Sister Edna M. Holmes were united in holy matrimony and to this union was born 3 children. On August 8, 2009, Elder Brown was united in holy matrimony to Sister Emily Clarke Dixon. They are the parents of 4 adult children and 10 grandchildren.

Under the pastorate of Elder Alexander McLean, Elder Brown was sent before the Ordination Board. He was ordained August 26, 1969 at the Miller Street Church of God in Christ by the late Bishop, G. E. Vaughn.

Elder Brown received the call from Bishop G. E. Vaughn on Thursday, October 22, 1981, requesting him to pray and consider pastoring First Church in Greensburg. He was introduced to the congregation of First Church as their new Pastor on Sunday, November 29, 1981, by Superintendent C. Spence. Elder Brown pastored First Church of God in Christ, Greensburg for 34 years.

On July 15, 2015, Elder Brown was sent to Gethsemane Church of God in Christ, Clairton, as Interim Pastor. Elder Brown was installed as Pastor of Gethsemane Church of God in Christ, Clairton, on Sunday, May 22, 2016.

1985-1996:    Assistant Secretary-Board of Elders

1997:              Appointed Assistant Chairman Board of Elders

1993-1998:    Member of Ordination Committee

1999:              Appointed Chairman – Ordination Committee

2005:              Serves as President of Ministers and Missionaries Alliance

2015:              Superintendent of the Washington District

 

On September 1, 2000, Elder Brown received a Doctorate of Theology from Andersonville Seminary, Camilla, Georgia.
